This shop is excellent. I have brought two of my cars here over the years. Several times they were willing to tighten something or diagnose a minor problem on the spot for little to no cost. The more involved projects have always been reasonably priced and they were clear about what was going to be done and the timeline. If there was a negative, it would be that there are times when they're too busy and can't schedule something for the next day.

I needed to get a vehicle inspection for Texas car registration and per usual, I left things to the last minute. They were able to do it same day. They were super friendly and I really appreciated that they wore masks and required customers to wear masks. I didn't feel patronized or laughed at, and I always feel a bit nervous about that as a woman at a car shop. I'd definitely go back for future services! Also super cool that they've been in business since the 1930s - they have an old cash register in the office and a gas prices sign from way back when.

Been going here for almost 10 years. Múltiple times they have done some minor additional thing for me without charging me, or told me to fix it myself for almost no money if it was easy. The level of honesty and generous customer focus I think is the number one awesome thing about these guys. Their prices are extremely fair as well. Usually the car is ready to pick up ahead of schedule. Best repair shop in the whole state.

These guys are the best. We've used them regularly for maintenance and repairs in the past and have always had a great experience. This last time, before bringing the car in, they suggested something we could try to fix the issue ourselves and it totally worked! Appreciate that they can get the job done, but don't trick you into paying for something unnecessary.

They may do good here, however Orwellian policy for wearing a mask is still required here. Why enforce policy that is unproven and outdated. I definitely would not recommend this place. Societal subversion prevails here.

This place is truly amazing and I would highly recommend using them if able. Stopped in last minute with and over heating car and had to go out of town the next day. He original told me it would be a day or two because they were busy but once he found out my situation they fixed it that day. True customer service is hard to find these days, I know because I’ve worked in the industry my entire life.

I would not recommend coming here. My first impression was being scolded for not having a mask when I wasn’t told to bring one in the first place. I wasn’t resisting wearing one just simply didn’t know and was accused of lying after front desk said “well I scheduled you and must’ve said something”. Oil change was incredibly expensive and overpriced ($97). Overall would not recommend to anyone.

I’m all for prioritizing safety, especially in 2024. However, if a car service requires masks, it should be clearly advertised online, or the shop should offer masks to customers who arrive without one. I was refused service and had to leave.

Honest and fair - I called wanting a general check up on my vehicle. I was told to go to autozone and get my engine light checked first. They could have very easily taken me in for an appointment and charged me lots of money for a diagnostic, but didn’t. It ended up being a simple problem I fixed at home. Will be going here for my future car troubles.

These guys are honest, straight-up, no bullshit mechanics. They really helped me out after a different auto shop installed parts incorrectly. Jeremy showed me exactly what had gotten messed up and helped me understand what went wrong so I could go give the other place a piece of my mind. They inspected my car free of charge, which was super super nice of them. Next time I need work done on my car, I'll be skipping the chain auto shops and will be going local, directly to Gene Johnson.

Reliable, honest, speedy and transparent service. They call with quotes and different repair options. They’re flexible with car drop off and pickup. I don’t feel that unnecessary repairs are made. They even give out good referrals to outside mechanics for specialty services. I have been going here for a few years, and even though I moved out of the immediate area I still go back because I feel they are trustworthy. Jeremy is great. Everyone leaving a nasty review because of a mask requirement needs to get a grip. There are two people working in the shop and if either of them get sick, then they won’t be able to work on the cars. Clearly none of you understand how a small business works or any consideration for various health needs which still require people to be considerate of others’ immune systems. I called today asking for a tire rotation and the gentleman kindly asked questions and inquired what I really needed to make sure the service they provided would be sufficient. They gave me great tips on how to assess the year on the tire and educated me rather than just trying to get my service. I will be going to this location for honest auto needs and I’m happy to oblige wearing a mask.

These guys are straight up rude and their "advice" costs me hundreds later on. My car was making screeching noises starting back in June so I called to inquire about dropping my car off. The person on the phone told me I could drop my car off for a quick look for no charge. When I went to pick my car up, the person at the front desk scolded me for not paying. He asked me, "When you go to the doctors office and you have a service done, payment is always expected, right? I don't understand why you would expect a service done here for no charge." I told him I wasn't opposed to paying for their service at all, I just had no idea and was told that they would look quickly for no charge. Aside from that, they told me my car was fine and that the noises were likely due to rusty parts after the rain. They made it very clear that my brakes weren't the issue and that they looked specifically at that. Well... it's October now and the noises never went away. I didn't take my car into the shop for months because the guys at Gene's told me it was just rusty. Well, it isn't just rust. My brakes are completely worn, it's been metal to metal FOR MONTHS. If these guys would have been honest back in June, I wouldn't have needed to replace all brakes AND ROTORS.
