Found and fixed a brake line bracket in my car that had been broken months before (broken by a *different* auto shop) and had been making a weird knocking sound. I had tried two prior places to figure out the sound and they couldn't figure it out. The mechanic at Tuan's LAYED DOWN on the engine while my husband drove around the parking lot to listen to what the sound was. Shoutout to these guys for keeping me from dying in a fiery crash from a busted brake line.

I acquired a used and abused 2006 Toyota Corolla from a work colleague who pitied me for taking the bus to and from work for almost 2 years. I was expecting the worst when I took it to Tuan at the recommendation of a work friend who is a regular. I asked them for an oil change and to diagnose any obvious issues with it. From what I recall, they suggested a valve cover gasket replacement, front brake pads & rotors, back wheel drums, front suspension work, and then a tune up which included spark plugs, etc. I only ended up going with the front wheel work and the oil change. I think in total it was about $400.00 which I thought was a bit steep (and I'm a woman so, I always assume I will be given a higher estimate just because of that). I'm surprised they didn't mention anything about the broken engine oil dipstick tube which worries me more and more when I think about it. The great thing was that there was a short turnaround time for the work and they told me up front that the extra stuff was not life-or-death, which I appreciate. I'm contemplating going back to have the dipstick tube replaced and to diagnose what I suspect is another leak I saw on the underbelly. All in all, not a bad experience, I am just curious how other shops measure up in price.

When it comes to getting your car fixed one of the most important things you can look for in a shop is honesty. What's even better is that with these guys you get both honesty and quality work their prices are also extraordinarily Fair. We had a quote from one place to do all four sets of brakes on my yukon. The other company tried charging me $1,000 to replace brake pads and rotors on both front and back. After visiting these guys I was charged $250 for the front and I learned that the back were just fine and that they didn't need to be replaced trusting your repair guy isn't just important, it's everything.

I can’t really imagine better service. They are so talented, cost-sparing and lovely people. My car has been there 3 times now and I always feel like I‘ve robbed a bank since they are so inexpensive (this last time they serviced my car for free!) and yet the job is done and done well and expediently I cannot recommend Tuan enough!

Absolutely heartening to see mechanics that are there to service your car, not just hackle you out of money! Last mechanic shop was dishonest and steep in pricing. Got brakes and rotors replaced and the mechanic was able to diagnose and fix the other issues I had with my car. Above and beyond, even when it wasn’t necessarily requested! Plan on revisiting, as a honest mechanic is a stress reliever and hard to find! Thank you for what you do, as you do it with pride! 10/10 would recommend to everyone!

I may have reviewed Tuan Auto Repair before - but what the heck, I'll do it again! When I moved to St Paul I regretted leaving my previous mechanic but after trying other shops, Tuan is definitely the best! I just wish the city of St Paul would give Raks one of the many vacant lots along University so he could build a new, larger shop. Maybe Dr. Bill Mcquire (owner of the Loons} with all that vacant land around his soccer stadium, could kick in some $$$ - just a thought.

I can't say enough good things about Tuan Auto Repair and the expertise, honesty, and kindness of the business owner, Raks. My wife have been frequenting this place now for fifteen years and not once have had a bad experience. I was sad when I got my Tesla a few years ago that I wouldn't be able to take my car there anymore but recently found out that Tuans can do tire rotations and cabin filter changes for EVs! They do a great job and do so at a fraction of the cost of Tesla.

Today I picked up my car after getting my wheel bearing replaced at my dealership, however I noticed that the same humming and vibration issue persisted despite it being serviced. Dealer insisted that it was diagnosed and replaced correctly and told me to drive it around in case it disappears. In hopes for a second opinion I called around at different mechanics asking to get quoted for a diagnostic. After getting quoted $80-150 from other shops for a diagnostic (which isn’t unreasonable) I figured I’d call Tuan’s. He asked what car I had and what issue I was having. I explained my situation and he was able to give me an exact quote for front wheel bearing and rear wheel bearing (including labor). These were reasonable prices and I asked when I could come by for a diagnostic. He was booked until mid-next week if I wanted to lift my car but told me that he would do a drive test at no charge when I had time. I initially informed him I could come by in a couple days. I then realized I had time to do it within the hour. I called back to see if it was okay for me to come by within 10 minutes and he was OK with that. When I arrived, he told me to just hang out for a bit so he could finish up with another customers matters. I didn’t mind waiting at all since I came very abruptly and would hate to cause delays in someone else’s matters. Less than 10 minutes later, he came out and took it on a drive. We ended up needing to go through rush hour traffic to hear it clearly. He was very knowledgeable, reaffirmed what I was hearing, and helped educate me on the car, and gave me advice on my next steps. He was not pushy in the slightest and said I should give him a call if the dealer gave me trouble. At the end of the drive, I asked how I could compensate and he laughingly shook me off. It’s rare to see such willingness to help someone without any benefits. I’ve been through hell and back after my parked car was totaled, dealing with several shady dealers and salespeople, now an issue with my wheel bearing only 10 days after purchase. This was the exact empathy, flexibility, and integrity I needed and I’m so appreciative of his help and time. From the review of this place, I know they’re incredibly busy and it means the world that he could take my car for a spin to address my concerns. I will be sure to return to this auto shop for future maintenances and services.
