Clear Choice Superior Lexus has been a huge find for our family! We all drive Lexus/Toyota. Like many, we had grown tired of the typical dealership routine where the prices were sky high and many times unnecessary maintenance services were recommended. Allan and his team of Lexus mechanics do what is necessary/prudent, do it very well and are transparent about everything - all at a very fair price. Used Clear Choice for a few years for three of my Lexus vehicles with some good experiences, some average experiences, and a few poor experiences. The bad/average; oil change on a GX460, used the wrong oil and the wrong quantity. This was when the car was new to us and they also didn’t advise that it was missing the cover for the drain bolt. Went back later for a radiator and I honestly don’t know how they are any cheaper than the dealer. Also asked them to check a broken bolt for the front engine cover and all they were able to do was confirm that it was broken, no solution provided. The solution ended up being a new bracket to the tune of about $60. Not sure why they couldn’t figure this one out. Finally, had them service the AC, give it an alignment, and flush the brake fluid. Was advised that they only clear the fluid from the reservoir and that is it (for $160). They do not bleed the fluid from each caliper because that would require “hooking up the computer to the car for the process”. A Lexus specialist should easily know how to complete this procedure, right? The good; they did do a good job servicing my LS430 including the timing belt. Though for that service, they don’t replace the tensioner or pulley. Even though they drain the coolant, they don’t replace the thermostat either. For the price of those components and the cost of the service, they should probably go hand in hand. It’s been 7 years now since the service and those components are now 18 years old, though the thermostat failed not too long ago. I’m sure failure of these components is slim but with the heat exposure in Houston and the fact that it is an interference engine, maybe offer these items as an option to the customer next time? Everyone was always friendly at Clear Choice but we just didn’t seem to be on the same page unfortunately with attention to detail, especially at their price point.
