The worst service I've received in a long time. Had an appointment in the morning for when they opened, they opened late and the person who took my information didn't tell anyone I was bringing my car apparently. I asked for several things to be looked at in addition to charging the air conditioning. I believe they charged my air but didn't tell me what they looked at, if anything was wrong, nothing. I'll never take my vehicle here nor recommend anyone I care about to come here.

I called and asked if they could look at my car. They said Bring it over on Friday. When I arrived they didn't have time to look at it. They said to come back Monday. They had the car all day Monday and never called. Tuesday morning I stopped back. Didn't find out What was wrong til That afternoon.

I called the shop and gave my credit card information on Nov 4th to help my brother fix his car. I gave the details to someone working at the shop. I live in Chicago. I used my card again on Nov 12th and found out that someone in Iowa made fraudulent charges on my card. The only place in Iowa who had my info was this shop. It was a new card. My brother did not have the info. There is an investigation going forward.

We broke down traveling through and stopped in for repairs. Even as busy as they were they worked me in and charged me a more than fair price. True blessing to run into honest people. Highly recommend Jacks!!!

New to the Des Moines area I've found Jacks University Auto is an excellent auto service shop. I found this little gem through the recommendation of a local when I asked around about an honest repair shop in the area for a decent price. Let me just say, they are the real deal. Let me give you some examples. 1st, they quoted me a nice discount price on some break work from the dealership shop prices and did a great job on replacing them. Even saved me some cash by machining the rotors rather than replacing them when they could have just replaced them for a whole lot more cash. While it doesn't have a waiting room or a fancy coffee machine, locals stop by just to hang out and talk shop. Why? because I guess its been around for 35+ years in the biz. People in the neighborhood trust them. And when you don't have a lot of cash to toss at a problem, trust is important. While I was waiting to get my breaks done, I even saw an employee help out an older person by directing her to another shop for some specialty work & even priced out the part cost for her over the phone to ensure when she showed up she knew roughly what the cost would be so she new if the other place would overcharged her. He got her a fair price for the parts as to what the cost would be from a parts supplier even before she showed up at the other place. Jack's didn't make a dime off that sale, but certainly showed that honest shops still exist. Who does that anymore? A biz who helps someone and pays it forward? This shop it seems. It says something about a place when your customers bring in home baked goods. I think I found my new shop....

After my wife leaving for work in the morning and the brakes going ount in her car she limps it back home and takes my truck. She gets down by toms auto sales and now it sounds like it is about to blow up. Toms auto sales was no help in assisting her so i told her to go to the nearest shop which just happened to be this one! They diagnosed the truck and had her back on the road within a few hours for a reasonable price! They do great honest work.

Beware! Especially females or the elderly. It's true my car ran good again; initially I went just for diagnostics and then gave approval on the problem I was told about, but the final result was over 3 times the cost discussed on the phone. Further unapproved maintenance was done without consent or discussion and when I asked why, I was given the 'canned answer' of automotive thieves ~~~If you don't want those extra parts we can remove them. Bad business and untrustworthy. What's sad is that they did an excellent job but without communication.

Where do I even begin with this nightmare! Dealing with the owner and staff at Jack’s has been a fiasco to say the least. I wish I could give them zero stars because that’s what they deserve! I took my 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee into their establishment on 1/31/2024 simply wanting my radiation system flushed out and new coolant to be put into my car, which should have been no more than $200.00. Issue #1 began when instead of them draining my coolant and replacing it they switched the thermostat in my vehicle and replaced the housing which cost $265.00, never getting my consent to do so, they called once the work was finished with the price and a time my car could be picked up. When I got my car my check engine light was off, but by the the following day the light came back on and said that my engine temperature was to low and wasn’t heating up properly. When I checked my coolant it hadn’t been changed. It was after hours and their facility was closed for the night. So, I reached out to the owner (Jack) first thing the next morning on 2/1/2024, he said that it was a misunderstanding and if I still wanted to get my coolant drained he would discount the price and charge me $100.00, I was reluctant but went through with letting them do the work, and dropped my car back off to them on 2/2/2024 to get the coolant flushed. The check engine light was off and the car seemed to be working properly when I picked it back up the same day. On 2/3/2024 I drove my car on I-235 to go to dinner with friends and while on the interstate my check engine light came back on and my car starting shaking and misfiring which it had NEVER DONE prior to them changing the coolant in my car, later that same night my car powered down and shut off while I was trying to park at a bar. It was the weekend and their facility was closed until Monday, so I went to O’reily’s and got a diagnostics test done on 2/4/2024 which showed that my car had multiple misfires and suggested that the possible reason was a coil that needed to be replaced, and possible censors. First thing Monday morning on 2/5/2024 I took my car into them and explained what it was doing, the owner (Jack) had a disgusting attitude and said that he wasn’t going to “work for free”, to fix the issue. Even though my car had never misfired prior to being worked on by his shop. I told him that all I wanted to be done was a diagnostics test to see if his machine matched up with what the O’reily’s diagnostics stated, so that we could pinpoint the exact issue and he agreed. On 2/6/2024 the owner called back and stated that my they changed a coil in my car and put new spark plugs in and my car was ready to be picked up and stated that the cost for parts and labor came to a total of $360.00. Again, working on my car without my approval or consent. At that point I was extremely frustrated, but I paid them because I didn’t want to risk them trying to keep my car with them for another second, if I disagreed with them. So we paid them and took my car, again when my car was picked up and the check engine light was off, but on 2/7/2024 which was yesterday morning, I drove my car to school at 8:30am, my check engine light came back on and my car started misfiring again. I called the owner first when they opened at 9am and told him what my car was doing and explained to him that I’ve had too many issues with his facility and asked if the parts they replaced on my car were new or after market parts, and asked for a copy of the receipts for all parts said to have been purchased for my car. The owner (Jack) offered to have me bring my car in a 4th time and I declined, he then screamed into the phone and stated that they are a legit business and that he had receipts for the purchases and then proceeded to hang up on me, I haven’t called him back and I don’t plan too.I paid these people $738 in total and of of last night 2/7/2024 my car is no longer starting. THEY WILL CREATE PROBLEMS ON YOUR CAR AND THEN CHARGE YOU TO FIX THEM. THEY ARE ABSOLUTE CROOKS, AND THEY FLAT-OUT SCAMMED. ME, SO BEWARE!!!!!

Came to get second opinion on struts, and also potential break replacement. They gave me honest opinion on the struts, which I did ask them to replace, and they said breaks were fine, just the rotor(s) needed cleaning. They saved me hundreds from a quote I received at another big-name place. The car handles great, I can tell the difference, and no more grinding breaks sound! Got to sit with these two brothers a bit. I appreciated their educating me on what I needed to know, some chitchat, and just their being down-to-earth, not scaring me into a sale/service.

Solid place for service, been using them for the last few years, always do a good job without trying to upsell me something I don't need.
